A good appetite and little activity brought me close to the 100kg mark on the scale. In 2007 I had a lumbago for the second time and I realized that I needed to change my lifestyle. I read a book from a German journalist who started running after years on the couch. That motivated me to get started.
First I started loosing weight by reducing my energy consumption. I quit drinking wine and beer. i had only one role instead of two for breakfast. After reducing my weight to 82kg I commenced to run. Starting with a distance of about 3km every other day in August I increased the distance up to the half marathon distance in December. After a year of running I finished the Berlin Marathon in 2008 in less then 3:40 hours. I lost almost 20kg, felt much better and got rid of my chronic back pain.
You will find reports on my training and injuries, equipment reviews and book recommendations in the near future.
